In an occassional series, longtime Native Plant Society Member and local botanist and naturalist, Jeff Quayle, reports on new discoveries or sitings, what's in bloom and where to find it, while sharing his own observations and tips on Texas' native plants.
The flora he discusses on this page is within the range of the Vegetational Areas of North Central Texas, taken from the upcoming new book Shinners & Mahlers Illustrated Flora of North Central Texas, published by the Botanical Research Institute of Texas. Latin names are considered to be current and up-to-date as of November 1998.
When writing about various plants, he will try to provide as much information about them as possible. When discussing the range of plants and their localities, sensitivity arises about revealing exact locations. He may not be able to discuss the exact location, but he will give you the basic information about the area of the county/counties in which they are located.
Questions? Contact him at the address below. He is available on occasion as a field guide to experience the flora of the region.
