in Habitat and Cultivation Bill Utley - President, Texas Association of Cactus and Succulent Societies Over the years, he has collected cacti from a friend’s ranch, from hunting leases, club field trips, nurseries, and club plant sales. His hobby has grown over time with the addition of a cactus garden and a greenhouse. He will share both his successes and failures with these interesting plants. |

Surprises About These Ancient Plants George M. Diggs, Jr. - Ph.D., Professor of Biology, Austin College Ever wondered what makes ferns different from other plants? Dr. George Diggs will examine surprising aspects of ferns and similar plants, and explain why Texas is such a special place for these ancient plants. Texas species thrive in some of the most extreme conditions—in crevices on huge exposed granite outcrops, underwater on the bottoms of ponds or lakes, in deserts, and in cave entrances. Diggs will answer your questions about these fascinating plants and provide a preview of his upcoming book titled Ferns and Lycophytes of Texas (co-authored with Barney Lipscomb). George is the co-author of the Illustrated Flora of North Central Texas and the Illustrated Flora of East Texas published by BRIT Press. |
