In October 2016, at the Native Plant Society's annual awards banquet, our North Central Chapter was awarded the Kate Hillhouse Chapter of the Year Award! This was the first time for the North Central chapter to achieve this recognition.
The award was based on activities during the period September 1, 2015 through August 31, 2016. The criteria for the award are "for chapter demonstration of leadership, chapter activities that promote the purposes of the Society, and chapter fun with plants." Each chapter President submits a report to the President of the state society. The award is based on that report and other available information. Past President Starr Krottinger submitted the report that resulted in the North Central's chapter recognition. Thanks Starr!
Along with the honor of being selected, the winning Chapter has the privilege of displaying a homemade quilt banner. This beautiful example of quilting craftsmanship was created especially for this purpose in 1993 and donated to the Society. After 22 years of rotating to different Chapters we are proud to have the quilt on display at our general meetings.
Who knows? Maybe it will be on display at our meetings for another year! We will find out at the 2016 State Symposium in November.
Starting at our June Meeting there will be an area set up for member photos with the quilt. The photos will used for a photo directory. That will give us June, August, September and October for this project. Good reason to come the meeting!
