Earth Day is the brainchild of the late Senator Gaylord Nelson after seeing the devastation caused by the 1969 oil spill in Santa Barbara. Already primed by Silent Spring, Rachel Carlson’s 1962 seminal book, Earth Day led to the formation of the Environmental Protection Agency, the Clean Water Act, the Clean Air Act, and the Endangered Species Act. Earth Day is celebrated by many institutions in North Central Texas and North Central Chapter is often invited to attend. This year our invitations were from UTA, the City of Mansfield, and the University of North Texas Health Science Center.
Additional upcoming events that need volunteers to help spread the word about native plants include:
May 13 Buffalo Boogie at Fort Worth Nature Center & Refuge
May 13 Prairie Day at Botanic Research Institute of Texas (BRIT)
May 19-21 Fort Worth Home & Garden Show at Will Rogers Coliseum
Contact Dawn Hancock if you can volunteer at an upcoming event.
